Enrofloxacin......100mg

Indications
Recommended Clinical Use:
Enrofloxacin is a synthetic, broad spectrum antimicrobial substance, belonging to the fluoroquinolone group of antibiotics. It is bactericidal in action and
effective against many gram positive and gram negative bacteria and mycoplasmas.
Dogs, cats and rabbits
The product is indicated in the treatment of bacterial infections of the alimentary, respiratory and urogenital tracts, skin, secondary wound infections and
otitis externa where clinical experience, supported where possible by sensitivity testing of the causal organism, indicates enrofloxacin as the drug of choice.
Cattle
Diseases of the respiratory and alimentary tract of bacterial or mycoplasmal origin (e.g. pasteurellosis, mycoplasmosis, coli-bacillosis, coli-septicaemia and
salmonellosis) and secondary bacterial infections subsequent to viral conditions (e.g. viral pneumonia) where clinical experience, supported where possible
by sensitivity testing of the causal organism, indicates enrofloxacin as the drug of choice.

Administration and Dosage
For intramuscular injection:
Dogs, cats and rabbits: a single dose of 0.2ml/kg body weight.
For subcutaneous injection:
Cattle, calves, sheep, goats: 0.5-1 ml per 20 kg bodyweight, once daily for 3-5 days.
Not more than 10 ml should be administered at one subcutaneous injection site.

Side Effect and Contraindication
Enrofloxacin and the other fluroquinolone antibiotics can cause developmental cartilage abnormalities. As a consequence most veterinarians try to avoid
these drugs in young animals.
Do not use when resistance / cross resistance to (Fluoro) quinolones is known to occur.
Do not use in case of impaired cartilage growth.
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to enrofloxacin or to any of the excipients.

Precautions
Animals with severe kidney or liver problems may need a reduced dose of enrofloxacin. Hydration should be monitored and fluid therapy used in animals at
risk for dehydration. Enrofloxacin should be used with caution or avoided in animals at risk for seizures.  Enrofloxacin should not be used for regional
antibiotic perfusion because it is too irritating and will cause vasculitis.
Do not use in animals producing milk for human consumption.

Adverse Reaction
Administration to young animals during growth, can cause cartilage lesions in joints. Digestive alterations may appear, such as inappetence or mild diarrhea.
